On 3rd Oct 2016, Big Big Heart, together with a group of 40 committed volunteers, turned out in unity to support as food servers in a fundraising event organised by Mediacorp. Themed《爱心72小时》or Hearts And Hugs, the dinner was hosted at Lepark – a cozy bar nestled in the heart of Chinatown – to help raise funds for Lucus Oon, a 9-year-old boy suffering from a rare genetic condition called Angelman syndrome.
The fundraising dinner was conceptualised by Big Big Heart founder, Ben Yeo and Mediacorp artiste Chua En Lai, with a fine dining experience centered around local street food. The 40-strong community from Big Big Heart were decked out in grey event tees instead of their traditional white to mark the special day for Lucus.
Mr Yeo Hart Pong, Managing Director of Song Fa Bak Kut Teh, was also present at the event with his team of F&B managers to render their support in supervising the dinner service for 110 guests as well as offering pointers to the volunteers.
What would pose as a pretty tricky challenge for the volunteers turned out to be one synergistic team effort, full of confidence and ease for the majority who had little experience in F&B service. For the love of giving, the volunteers had took time off from their busy schedule to support Lucus and his family, who were in attendance to show their appreciation to all the individual givers who came to contribute to the cause.
Moving forward, Big Big Heart will continue in their efforts to further aid Lucus in his development. Starting with “Smile, Lucus” campaign, Song Fa Bak Kut Teh has come onboard as the official campaign sponsor to partner Big Big Heart in a joint effort to raise $10,000 for Lucus’s treatment and daily expenses.
